This remarkable enterprise was opened on 28th January 1982; the first ever community shop in Essex. The shop is run for the benefit of the community, not just as a shop, but as a meeting place, a lost-property office and source of local information. Most of the staff are volunteers. Any offers of further help are always welcome.
The shop is open every day, except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. The sub Post Office opens on Mondays and Thursday, unless these coincide with a Bank Holiday.
Our shop staff generally work shifts of two and a half hours. Many others are employed behind the scenes, preparing rotas, undertaking minor maintenance, checking stock levels and cleaning windows, freezers and the interior of the building. Others collect goods from the Cash & Carry, or source fresh vegetables locally. Our aim is to provide our customers with a really first class, efficient and essential local amenity.
If you would be interested in joining our team, please telephone the shop on (01799) 541348 and leave your contact details. A committee member will respond to your call.
